Desmond Elliot is trending on social media because of his comment he made after the shooting that happened in Lekki toll gate, Lagos, Nigeria on Tuesday 20 September.

In the house, he said that "celebrities, social media influencers should stop the hatred, you have constitutional power to change things with your PVC and if you are tired, enter government."

He also said if Nigerians are not careful with the way looting is going on in the country, in five years we may not have any country.

What did Desmond Elliot say?

Elliot praise the speaker of the house, said that he condemned the carnage that happened in Lekki.

He also said that "I like to thank the speaker on how he condemned the carnage that happened in Lekki. When I saw the comments I could not believe what i saw, children are cursing the government, they entered the Oba Palace stole his staff of office. In the next five years we will not have any Nigeria if we do not start now.

"The youths are not the only those who did the peaceful process, those who looted, who have destroyed lives, they are youths too."

However in another video, he cleared the air saying he was not trying to push any bill to control social media, said what he was trying to say was to tell social media influencers that they should not use the platform to spread hate across the country. 

He said, "I am begging everyone that this wasn't what I meant. No state house of assembly have the jurisdiction to pass any bill of such."

But this doesn't stop social media from slamming the former actor, even Davido called him out saying “Desmond Elliot just destroyed all the precious childhood memories he gave us in movies”

Celebrities like Dotun also said “Desmond Elliot thinks everything is a Nollyhood movie. There is no Genevieve to fall for you this one, Peter Edochie can't stand in as your father and Rita Dominic would date Pat Attah instead... you just go lost an Oscar in our hearts”
