End SARS protest in Benin: Godwin Obaseki sets Judicial Panel of Inquiry in Edo
Edo state government has established Judicial Panel of Inquiry to investigate the circumstance that surrounds the #EndSARS protests in Edo state |
This happened after the massive protests that happened in Benin on Monday and other things that followed till curfew was set in the State.
Edo State government has earlier declared a 24-hour curfew in the state till further notice.
The curfew has been enforced since 4:00pm on Monday, October 19, 2020.

Governor Obaseki said this panel is in response to the cry of the Nigeria youths, as part of the elements of the #EndSARS protests. Members of the Panel of Inquiry includes;
- Hon Justice Ada Ehigiamusoe, Chairperson;
- Bishop Feb Idahosa, (Clergy);
- Francis Osayi, (ASUU);
- Comrade Osahon Obasuyi (NYC);
- Prest Aigbokhian (Civil Society);
- Mrs Uloaku Uzamere (NCWS):
- Comrade Pius Efofan (NANS);
- Pius Okpere (#EndSARS Movement);
- Comrade Kola Edokpayi (#EndSARS Movement);
- Mrs Felicia Monyei (Ministry of Justice);
- Representative of security forces;
- Mrs Joyce Ugbodaga, Secretary to the Committee
What is the work of this Panel?
- To receive complaints & petitions from the general public, particularly victims or relatives of victims of police brutality & extra-judicial killings & to recommend measures, including compensation & restitution, investigation & prosecution, as the circumstances warrant.
- To give advise on compensation or restitution to the victims, or- where the victim has died- then it will be based on the family of the victim, based on condition that the committee will clearly lay out.
- To make sure that they pay compensation within 14 days of the decision to compensate.
- To recommend and direct the Attorney General to immediately prosecute all persons responsible for the different crimes committed.
- To recommend measures to stop reoccurrences in the future.
- To make any other recommendations to government in furtherance of the mandate of this Committee.
