The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has fired one officer that was accused of participating in looting COVID-19 palliatives in Gwagwalada, Abuja.
The force in a statement said they have dismissed Illiya Ibrahim after the junior Disciplinary committee have conducted their investigation on the matter, recommended him to be sacked.
The story was that the officer, Illiya has been assigned to the Gwagwalada Division, Abuja, and when thousands of people broke into FCT warehouse in the area on Tuesday, he joined the youth to loot the palliative.
A video of him went viral across Nigeria making people to wonder how the officer wore his uniform and began to carry bags of food instead of him to prevent people from looting the warehouse.
This video then made the management of NSCDC to begin an investigation into the matter.
The media asssistant to the Commandant General NSCDC, Ekunola Gbenga, in a statement explained that the force charge officer Illiya under the public service rule and they found him guilty of anyhow behaviour alias misconduct that was unbecoming of any officer.
He added that the Commandant General, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu gave him approval to fire Illiya without delay after he has received the recommendation of the Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee.
The Commandant General then thanked officers and men of the corps including members of the public for how they provided useful information on matter and said it has helped them to identify those officer that are not fit to be part of the paramilitary unit.
